Does your dog need a coat?
  + stars: | 2024-02-24 | by ( Alicia Wallace | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +11 min
But all this begs the question: Does your dog need a coat? From high-fashion to high-performanceThere’s evidence of dog fashion and clothing throughout history — from the ancient Egyptians and 19th-century Paris dog boutiques to early 20th-century photographs of dogs wearing clothes. Prada's Re-Nylon puffer dog coat with hood comes in two colors and three sizes, $825 From PradaBut the transition from Fifth Avenue high-end and high fashion to high-performance and technical function has certainly accelerated in recent decades. Doberman Pinschers — along with sleek breeds like Greyhounds and Whippets — are prime candidates for dog coats because of their short hair, thin skin and minimal body fat. “Make sure the coat fits well for safety and they’re supervised while wearing the coat.

(AP) — Sen. Tim Scott, a potential running mate if Donald Trump becomes the Republican presidential nominee, is treading carefully on questions about whether he would have certified the 2020 election had he been vice president at that time. He added: "You’re asking a hypothetical question that you know can never happen again.”Scott voted in favor of certifying the 2020 results when the Senate got back to work after the siege. Scott sidestepped questions Sunday about how he saw the vice president's role in the certification process. The legislation, in part, makes clear that the vice president’s responsibilities in the certification process are merely ceremonial and that the vice president has no say in determining who actually won the election. Trump is facing felony charges for working to overturn the results of the 2020 election in the run-up to the Capitol riot.

BOSTON (AP) — More than two dozen commercial drivers have had their licenses downgraded in the wake of a scandal involving State Police troopers allegedly taking bribes in exchange for passing test scores, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles announced Friday. The RMV said it identified 26 people who didn’t pass the test properly and changed them to Class D passenger licenses. The drivers, who were not named, will have to take and pass all the required permit and skills tests if they want to get commercial licenses. Calvin Butner, 63, of Halifax, and Perry Mendes, 63, of Wareham, both retired state troopers, were arrested in Florida on Monday. Cederquist is alleged to have conspired with Mathison, who worked for a spring water company that employed drivers needing commercial licenses, to give them passing scores; and with Camera, who worked for a truck driving school in Brockton, to help four state troopers get their commercial licenses.

And if the political strategist James Carville was right that “it’s the economy, stupid,” the next several months could make or break Joe Biden’s economic record. As things stand, the current ruler of the free world touts a fragile advantage. Households’ disposable income after adjusting for inflation hit a record $20 trillion in the month that Biden’s measure was approved, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. STUDENT LOANSForgiving swaths of student debt was another of Biden’s campaign promises, but his efforts have so far failed. And with higher interest rates making debt service more expensive, Biden’s spending could come back to bite him on election day.

(AP) — U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will host Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng for two days of talks this week, the latest in a series of high-level talks between U.S. and Chinese officials as the world's two largest economies aim to ease tensions, the Treasury Department announced Monday. The Yellen-He talks set for Thursday and Friday come ahead of the start of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco which starts November 11. Xi similarly met with Blinken in June when the secretary of State traveled to Beijing for talks with Wang. Yellen is expected to amplify the message on climate during her talks with He in San Francisco. Critics, including the Biden administration, say China’s projects often create massive debt and expose nations to undue influence by Beijing.

(AP) — The Biden administration is designating 31 technology hubs touching 32 states and Puerto Rico to help spur innovation and create jobs in the industries that are concentrated in these areas. President Joe Biden is set to announce the hubs on Monday at the White House with Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. The tech hubs are the result of a process Raimondo's department launched in May to distribute a total of $500 million in grants to cities. The White House has sought to elevate that message and highlight Biden's related policies as the Democratic president undertakes his 2024 reelection bid. “These Tech Hubs will catalyze investment in technologies critical to economic growth, national security, and job creation, and will help communities across the country become centers of innovation critical to American competitiveness,” the White House said Monday in an emailed statement.

CNN —President Joe Biden over the last two days participated in a voluntary interview with special counsel Robert Hur as a part of his classified documents investigation, the White House announced Monday. A spokesperson for Hur, who oversees the Justice Department’s probe into classified documents found at Biden’s home and former private office, declined to comment to CNN. Hur was appointed in January to investigate incidents of classified documents being found at Biden’s former Washington, DC, office and his Wilmington, Delaware, home. While Biden has not often commented on the case, he said in January that he was surprised to learn that classified documents were found in his former office. “People know I take classified documents, classified information seriously,” Biden added, saying that the documents were found in “a box, locked cabinet – or at least a closet.”After documents were found in his Wilmington home later in January, Biden said he was cooperating fully with the Justice Department.

Jill Biden, the first lady, tested negative for the coronavirus on Thursday, the White House said, putting an apparent end to a minor health scare that had threatened to upend President Biden’s trip to a Group of 20 summit in India. The announcement came shortly before Mr. Biden departed the White House for his trip to New Delhi, where he plans to lobby world leaders on matters that include condemning Russia’s war with Ukraine and curbing China’s financial influence over poorer countries. The president also tested negative for the virus on Thursday, as he had throughout the week. The White House had announced that Dr. Biden, 72, had tested positive for the virus on Monday, after she and Mr. Biden spent part of the weekend at their family home in Rehoboth Beach, Del. White House officials had said she was experiencing only mild symptoms of the virus, and did not seem to anticipate her remaining contagious or requiring a lengthy recovery.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden turned up in a mask for the first time in months on Tuesday, a day after his wife tested positive for COVID-19. People who are exposed to the coronavirus should wear a mask and monitor for symptoms for 10 days, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden would be following CDC protocols and would mask indoors unless he was far enough away from someone. The Bidens had COVID-19 last summer, which is about the last time the president wore a mask in public. Officials already are expecting updated COVID-19 vaccines that contain one version of the omicron strain, called XBB.1.5.

Also in the Senate, California’s Dianne Feinstein, 90, has been ill and displayed apparent cognitive decline in public in recent months. But given that Biden, McConnell and Feinstein are public officials, voters are entitled to a high level of transparency. Biden, for instance, would be 86 by the time his second term ends, which represents his biggest vulnerability in the 2024 election. Remarkably, in an age where major questions divide on party lines, 69% of Democrats shared that view. Should Biden, if he wins a second term, experience a similar moment to McConnell, questions about the continuity of US leadership would reverberate around the world and offer openings for US adversaries.
